The San Francisco 49ers started running back Mike Davis on Sunday in place of Carlos Hyde on Sunday, but Davis ended up getting the least work among the running backs. Hyde was absent due to a shoulder injury, and we saw Davis, DuJuan Harris, and Shaun Draughn all get work. Harris ended up with 26 offensive snaps, Draughn had 23 offensive snaps, and Davis had 21 offensive snaps. Carlos Hyde's status for Week 9 is unknown for the time being. He told the media he expected to be back for the game, but the players will not return to practice until next Monday.
Quinton Patton and Torrey Smith remained the team’s leading receivers in terms of snap count, but it says all you need to know that Shaun Draughn led the team in targets, receptions, and yards. The 49ers passing game remains an inconsistent mess. The 49ers might as well trade Smith considering they are not really doing much of anything with him on a regular basis.
Vance McDonald remains the 49ers primary tight end, with Garrett Celek getting plenty of work as well. McDonald was targeted six times, but only had one reception for 24 yards. Blake Bell was active over Je’Ron Hamm, which was a reverse from last week. The rotation of players continues at various positions, which is basically just telling us, the team does not have players good enough to fully secure the starting job. This is not breaking news.
Here’s the 49ers offensive snap count for Week 7.
