The San Francisco 49ers lost a tough one in Week 4, blowing a 14-point lead en route to a 24-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The loss was bad enough. Unfortunately, we also saw NaVorro Bowman go to the ground on a non-contact injury, and he is now getting an MRI to determine if he ruptured his Achilles. It went from bad to worse in a hurry.
The sting was not helped by the large number of Cowboys fans in attendance. The Cowboys travel well, so this is not a shock, but it is still disheartening when you hear a loud cheer from the home stadium when the home team jumps offsides to give the road team new life. The 49ers players noticed it, and I think most everybody else could recognize it with the cheers. Of course, it did lead to one amusing moment with Jerry Jones and one Cowboys fan:
Jones was alright after getting hit with a helmet, so you can enjoy a guilt-free chuckle.
The 49ers packed AT&T Stadium back in 2014, so I suppose turnabout is fairplay. This also reminds me of the 2011 49ers-Cowboys game at Candlestick Park that saw Cowboys fans offer up a rather raucous environment. If the 49ers continue to struggle, I imagine we’ll see an increase in road fans with home fans potentially doing what they can to unload tickets. The Cowboys are a bit of an outlier to some extent, but we’ll see what the rest of the season brings.
