The afternoon schedule of Week 8 NFL action is incredibly light, with only two games at 1:05 and 1:25 p.m. The Denver Broncos host the San Diego Chargers, kicking off at 1:05 p.m. The Atlanta Falcons host the Green Bay Packers, kicking off at 1:25 p.m.
The 49ers face the Falcons later this season, and so this game has a small impact on the 49ers’ strength of schedule. Ties in the draft order are determined first by SOS, and then by coin flip. The team with a lower SOS gets the better draft spot. The thought is that they are worse because they finished with the same record facing weaker opponents. And so, we want the Packers to get the win in this one.
The Broncos-Chargers game has less immediate bearing on the 49ers. The Browns face the Chargers later this year. If the Chargers win, it slightly increases the Browns SOS. Again, this is one game out of a whole lot, so in the big picture, it is not a huge deal. But when the season is winding down, if things are close, it could prove big.
This will serve as the PM game thread.
