49ers-Saints odds: New Orleans opens as field goal road favorite

I expect a lot of money on the Saints following their home win over the Seahawks.

The San Francisco 49ers return to action this week as they host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The line for the game opened up Sunday after the Saints upset the Seattle Seahawks, and New Orleans has been installed as a field goal road favorite in Week 9.

The Saints edged out the Seahawks in a wild Week 8 game. The Seahawks jumped on top when Earl Thomas ran back a fumble for a touchdown. I figured the rout would be quick and furious, but the Seahawks offense struggled to get anything going. Their offensive line remains a dumpster fire. Christine Michael only ran ten times for 40 yards, and Russell Wilson could not get going particularly well. The Seahawks quarterback threw his first interception since Week 1. This game was back-and-forth throughout, and Seattle had a shot to win it on the final play of the game, but Wilson could not connect with Jermaine Kearse.

I would not be surprised to see a decent amount of public money bet on the Saints. They are bad on the road, but people will remember this big home win. And of course, people know the 49ers are a train wreck. I do actually think this is a winnable game for the 49ers, but they have done nothing to really prove they can actually win these games. Drew Brees and that passing attack can be inconsistent outdoors, but I would think the Saints will instead focus on the run game against the 49ers awful run defense.

When a team is getting points at home, it is usually an indicator to make the wager. It does not pan out every game, but a home underdog can often hold some value. That was not the case on Sunday as three of the four home dogs failed to cover. It is hard for me to see the 49ers covering in this one. If the line goes up, maybe I would consider it, but at +3, it’s tough to bet on the 49ers.
