Golden Nuggets: At least Palmer is out

Sure, their defense is immensely talented, as are their offensive skills players. But it’s something.

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers
Aaron Lynch, a man with a plan
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Thursday folks, it feels like just yesterday that we all had the opportunity to watch a 14 point halftime lead slip through our fingers, all the while losing the heart and soul of the defense team. For many of us, Thursday Night Football is a good excuse to sneak out to the bar to watch a game without regard to Sunday endurance, but this is our yearly holiday in which the socializing fades to white noise. This Thursday, our beloved 49ers do battle with the Arizona Cardinals for a gritty prime time matchup between a bad team and an inexplicably bad team, duking it out to see which one can slip through the door and leave the other tumbling down the stairs into the proverbial NFC West basement.

News popped up today that Carson Palmer will remain in concussion protocol, promoting the lowly Drew Stanton to fill the orthopaedic shoes left for him by his injured teammate. While I wish the very best for Mr. Palmer, his warming the bench gives the 49ers at least some glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak outing. Our half of the injury report reads like an obituary for our defense, but there is a silver lining in getting Lynch back onto the sidelines. Win or lose tonight, I leave you with two last items to ponder:

1) This means our injured players have 9 days, rather than 6, to lick their wounds before facing an up-and-down Bills team.

2) Start thinking of your excuses for Sunday. They know the 49ers aren’t playing, and I’m sure the gutters need cleaning.

With that, I bring you the gift of nuggets.
