Aaron Lynch activated for 49ers-Cardinals on Thursday Night Football

We break down the transaction that has the 49ers regaining their best pass rusher.

The San Francisco 49ers have formally activated outside linebacker Aaron Lynch off the suspended list. The team placed NaVorro Bowman on injured reserve to clear a roster spot.

There is no word on how much playing time Lynch will get in his first game back from suspension. Lynch joined the team in training camp in an overweight condition, having at one point ballooned up to 300 pounds. He is back down at around 270, which puts him right around where the team likes their outside linebackers.

My guess is he gets maybe 10-15 pass rush snaps, and then a share of special teams work. Any defensive snaps are welcome considering the state of the 49ers pass rush. They have some options, but while Ahmad Brooks has done some work, Tank Carradine and Eli Harold have seemingly dropped off the map at times. The 49ers face an Arizona Cardinals team that has a more traditional drop-back QB in Drew Stanton. If the 49ers can get pressure, maybe they can swing the home upset.
