The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals have been playing some atrocious football in the first half, but we finally have a score! After nine punts between the two teams, the 49ers got on the board with a Jeremy Kerley touchdown. They lead 7-0 late in the second quarter.
Blaine Gabbert and Drew Stanton had been atrocious for much of the first half, but Gabbert appears to have found a security blanket. Gabbert was 4-of-4 for 63 yards and a touchdown pass on the scoring drive. All four passes were completed to Kerley, who has 75 yards receiving thus far.
Kerley has been Gabbert’s clear favorite this season. Vance McDonald got some looks early, but his absence on Thursday leaves Kerley as the only significant receiving option. And yes, this is a team that is sending out Torrey Smith on the other side. Gabbert and Smith just don’t seem to have much of any chemistry. They’ll connect once in a while (not in this game), but there’s clearly issues getting the two of them on the same page.
Blaine Gabbert.
