The San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins released their first practice participation reports for Week 12, and we are getting some insight into Jimmie Ward’s status. The cornerback suffered a concussion on Sunday against the New England Patriots, and he is not back to practice yet.
The concussion protocol requires a player be asymptomatic at rest before he can begin doing football activities. Once he clears that, he can put on the non-contact jersey at practice. That results in a limited listing on the practice report. If he clears that with no symptoms, he then can return to full practice. Ward not practicing means he has not been cleared for football activities quite yet. Thursday’s participation report will likely be the biggest for Ward’s status. If he does not practice, he will likely be a long-shot to play on Sunday. If he does practice, even in just limited form with the non-contact jersey, he will still have a chance of playing on Sunday.
The other notable name on the injury report is Eli Harold. The 49ers outside linebacker is dealing with a toe injury that has slowed him on the practice field. Harold told Kelly he’ll be able to go on Sunday, but the training staff will have a lot to say about that. If Harold ends up unable to go, Tank Carradine would likely get the start opposite Ahmad Brooks.
