The San Francisco 49ers are taking care of business early in the day on Thanksgiving, and the upcoming practice participation report could provide some good news. Chip Kelly told the media on Thursday that cornerback Jimmie Ward is expected to do “something” at practice. He said the team’s head trainer, Jeff Ferguson, will determine specifically what that entails.
This is notable because Ward has been a DNP at practice the past two days due to the concussion he suffered in Week 11. He had to be cleared of concussion symptoms at rest before he could be cleared for non-contact football activity. If he was in fact cleared, he will likely be listed as limited on the Thursday practice report. That is a step forward from the DNP listings, and keeps alive his chances of playing this Sunday.
If Ward is unable to play on Sunday, Rashard Robinson would likely start in his place opposite Tramaine Brock. Keith Reaser would be the first cornerback off the bench. If Ward can play, Robinson becomes the first cornerback off the bench.
