The San Francisco 49ers will have Carlos Hyde wearing the non-contact jersey at Thursday’s practice, but his status for Sunday remains unknown. Chip Kelly met with the media on Thursday, and confirmed Hyde was wearing the blue jersey along with pads. This suggests Hyde will be listed as limited on the Thursday practice participation report.
When asked Hyde’s status for Sunday, Kelly said, “I have no idea.” He also said he had not spoken with head of football operations, Jeff Ferguson, about where Hyde stands on Thursday. The 49ers will issue their final injury report on Friday, an the training staff will make their recommendations as to whether or not Hyde can play.
The fact that Hyde is still doing non-contact work does not mean he definitely won’t play on Sunday, but it certainly is not the best sign. If he is going to play this weekend, I would hope he gets in a “full” session on Friday. Of course, the 49ers might just want to keep him out of harm’s way and then save any contact for game day. Anything is possible at this point.
