Matt Forte ruled out for Jets with knee injury

Bilal Powell replaces Forte in the Jets backfield.

The San Francisco 49ers hold a 14-0 lead on the New York Jets, and their path to victory has gotten a little easier. Jets running back Matt Forte suffered a knee injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the game.

Forte left the game in the middle of the first half and the trainers attempted to do some work on his knee, including putting some kind of gel on it, according to sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl. However, it was not enough, and he is done for the day.

Bilal Powell will handle the bulk of the work the rest of the game. Powell had three carries for 8 yards the last two weeks, but had consistently gotten in the 4-to-8 carry range of work much of the season. Powell entered the game with 49 carries on the season, and with 21 carries will match his total for all last season. The Jets passing game is a mess with Bryce Petty at quarterback, and the 49ers run defense is not good. Expect a lot of Powell the rest of the way.
