The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with quite a few injuries against the New York Jets, and the latest is Torrey Smith. The 49ers wide receiver went up for a pass in the third quarter and came down hard to the ground. He landed hard on his left shoulder, and then his head hit the ground with what appeared to be significant force. The team announced he suffered a concussion and has been ruled out. He will enter the league’s concussion protocol following the injury.
Smith initially was not moving on the field, but eventually he was able to sit up as the trainers tended to him. He was seated on the field for a while before he got up and was helped onto a cart. He put a towel over his head and face and was taken to the locker room.
Normally, teams will take some time to evaluate the player, but the quick diagnosis is not surprising. It was a scary moment, and here’s hoping the symptoms are not significant moving forward.
