We can formally add another quarterback to the mix for the 2017 NFL Draft. Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer announced by video that he will forego his remaining eligibility and enter the draft.
Kizer has been a starter at Notre Dame since early in the 2015 season. He will be competing with DeShaun Watson and Mitch Trubisky (pending his own declaration) to be the first quarterback off the board next April. Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett is looking like the top pick, but there are plenty of quarterback needs that could result in two or three quarterbacks going on day one.
The 49ers join the Browns, Bears, and Jets with the strongest need for a quarterback. The Browns have the top pick, but also have the Eagles first round pick. That pick is likely going to be a top ten pick, so the Browns could get Garrett and a quarterback. The 49ers are currently sitting at No. 2. They could go with a QB high, but there are a lot of options. A trade down is always possible, although without a second clear cut option up top, it makes a trade less likely.
