Good morning! Late yesterday afternoon, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young made an appearance on KNBR, and he had plenty to say. I’m working on a full transcript of his conversation. It went half an hour, and it’s pretty great. Young always seems like one of the more honest analysts out there, and he’s willing to go in on people, even within the 49ers. There is room for disagreement on some of his opinions, but he is ready to tell you exactly what he thinks.
In this case, Young blamed Trent Baalke for his inability to draft quarterbacks, and said losses don’t matter as much to the Yorks as they might otherwise due to the crazy increase in team equity. I personally do think Jed York hates losing, but when you are making money hand over fist, it can be easy to miss some of the issues. And given that York was the public face of the effort to get a stadium built, I can see how he might think he has the answers in spite of the criticism.
The full interview audio is in Kevin Jones’ two articles, so make sure and give those a read. On to the links!
