Golden Nuggets: Here come the GM rumors

Your San Francisco 49ers links for Saturday, December 17th, 2016

Well now Eliot Wolf is being whispered as a possible GM candidate. That name was unexpected. It’s also intriguing and if an outside hire is what is on the agenda IF Trent Baalke is fired, . While the consensus is that Jed York won’t hire from the outside, if he were to go that route, it’d be interesting to see what Wolf’s philosophy with the team going forward would be.

That also makes you wonder if Chip Kelly would get a ‘prove it’ year under Wolf or he’d instead be outright fired so Wolf can bring in his own guy. You never know, Wolf would have to sit down and see if he meshes with Kelly. There’s no doubt that there will be changes at season’s end. What changes there will be is yet to be seen.

One thing is for certain if there is any truth to this rumor, it’s the right direction to go outside the walls of the office for a GM. The Yorks need to realize what’s going on IN the front office isn’t working. Outside of Tom Gamble, who we don’t even know if he wants the job in the end, they need a new face, someone to come in and identify what’s wrong and then build on things to fix it. You aren't going to find that with the current staff. If Trent Baalke was retiring or stepping down for other reasons, hiring from within wouldn’t be out of the question. The truth is the current state of the team is subpar be it by scouting, free agent acquisitions, everything. The buck stops at Baalke, but when this system has been proven a failure time and time again, why would you want to keep any semblance of it around? Bring in someone else, have them evaluate the staff to figure out who is worth keeping and start over.

But then again. I’m using logic. Onto the links.
