NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Atlanta Falcons

The predictable beatdown materialized on Sunday. The 49ers lost 41-13 to the Atlanta Falcons and the game was never close. The Falcons walked down the field and scored touchdowns on 3 straight drives to begin the game to take a 21-0 lead in the 1st quarter. The 49ers were able to score 2 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to go into halftime down 28-13. But just like the rest of the season, they could not score in the 2nd half.

The 49ers will add 3 new names to the injured reserve list. WR Quinton Patton, LB Nick Bellore, and TE Blake Bell were all injured on Sunday and will have their season ended. CB Jimmie Ward, C Marcus Martin, and DL Glenn Dorsey were also injured in Atlanta, but the severity of their injuries are not known and their playing status is up in the air for the next 2 games. With Patton, Bellore, and Bell going to IR, the team will have 14 players on that list.

The run defense set a franchise record on Sunday for allowing the most rush yards in a season. They have allowed 2,468 yards and still have 2 games left. Davonta Freeman gained 139 yards with 3 touchdowns and Atlanta ran for 248 yards. The 49ers were very thin at inside linebacker and they were forced to play safeties Antoine Bethea, Vinnie Sunseri and OLB Ahmad Brooks there. This was not helped by Gerald Hodges being benched.
