Chip Kelly provides injury updates in press conference

Kelly offered more details on the injuries to players from the past few weeks

San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly addressed the media in his weekly Wednesday press conference and he gave more details on a few of the recent injuries involving the team.

Jimmie Ward suffered a broken collarbone in Atlanta but has not had surgery. Normally collarbones heal on their own while the arm is held motionless in a sling. On the other hand, (or foot) Quinton Patton, who broke a bone in his foot, has already had surgery to repair it.

Joe Staley has not been designated injured reserve because the team still hopes that he will play at some point in the final two games of the season. Torrey Smith is still in the concussion protocol and Kelly offered no updates outside of that statement. The 49ers will release their first practice participation report Wednesday afternoon, at which point we will get a better idea of where things stand for both.

Kelly would not confirm CB Rashard Robinson as a starter to face the Rams, taking the place of Ward, but did say he would be in the mix along with Keith Reaser and Tramaine Brock.

There were no further details on the injuries to Blake Bell (shoulder) or Nick Bellore (elbow).
