49ers-Rams injury report: Joe Staley, Torrey Smith, Marcus Martin, Dontae Johnson all DNPs

The 49ers injury report remains lengthy. We break down Week 16’s Wednesday report.

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up practice on Wednesday, and we have the first practice participation report of the week. The team practiced on Tuesday, but did not produce a report.

There are four players that did not participation. Joe Staley and Torrey Smith are carry-overs from last week’s practice report. The new names are Marcus Martin and Dontae Johnson. Martin suffered an ankle injury on Sunday, and the team signed a guard earlier today. That would suggest Martin might not play. Zane Beadles played center after Martin went down. The team has Alex Balducci available as well.

Johnson suffered a groin injury and was not practicing on Tuesday, according to the beat writers. He has played primarily special teams this season, with a handful of snaps here and there at cornerback. He has dropped like a rock down the depth chart.

If Staley and Smith are DNPs on Thursday, it is safe to say they won’t play on Saturday. If Martin does not go at center, it could mean Beadles starts at center and John Theus gets his first career start at left tackle. As for Smith, the team is also without Quinton Patton, who was placed on injured reserve. If Smith cannot play Saturday, we would likely see Jeremy Kerley and Chris Harper starter, with Rod Streater and Aaron Burbridge getting decent work. DeAndre Smelter might get some snaps as well, but my guess is he would be at the bottom of the depth chart.
