49ers-Rams injury report: Expected absences

New, comments

The 49ers injury report saw only one change, which gives us a good idea about who might not play on Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams.

The San Francisco 49ers closed out their media availability on Wednesday, but there are still practice participation reports to consider. The team had a walkthrough on Thursday and will have their final formal practice on Friday for Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

A walkthrough means the team projected out its participation report. Four players were still listed as not cleared to practice. Cornerback Dontae Johnson, center Marcus Martin, wide receiver Torrey Smith, and left tackle Joe Staley were all listed as DNPs. Martin is the most notable as he played last week and was a starter. It seems highly unlikely we see him play this week. If Joe Staley also sits, that leaves the team shuffling along the offensive line. We would see Zane Beadles at either center or left tackle. If he plays center, John Theus would play left tackle. If Beadles plays left tackle, then I guess Alex Balducci would play center. Either way, Andrew Tiller would play left guard.

The absence of Smith to go along with Quinton Patton (IR) leaves the 49ers with Jeremy Kerley, Chris Harper, Aaron Burbridge, Rod Streater, and DeAndre Smelter as the wide receivers. That is certainly something.
