49ers place Torrey Smith on injured reserve, promote Wynton McManis

The list just keeps on growing.

And we have another injured reserve move. The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday that wide receiver Torrey Smith has been placed on season-ending IR. The team promoted inside linebacker Wynton McManis to the 53-man roster.

Smith suffered a concussion two weeks ago, and had been held out of practice ever since. He was briefly knocked unconscious during the play, and did not remember anything from the play to when he was in his car being driven home. It is not surprise then that with only two games left and a growing injury list, the team would shut him down to clear a roster spot.

McManis signed with the 49ers this past May as an undrafted free agent. He spent training camp with the team was part of the first round of roster cuts. He later signed to the team’s practice squad on November 29. Nick Bellore was placed on IR earlier this week, leaving the team with Michael Wilhoite, Gerald Hodges, and the recently claimed Carl Bradford at inside linebacker. McManis provides some depth there and on special teams.
