NFL picks, Week 17: Straight up, and considering Survivor pool strategy

We’re back with Week 17 NFL picks, including a look at the 49ers, straight up picks, and a Survivor pool pick.

Welcome to Week 17! The 2016 NFL regular season comes to a close this weekend with a full slate of Sunday games. Thursday Night Football does not run in Week 17, so we get to sit and wait for a whole lot of football this Sunday. Scott Hanson and the Red Zone channel will be crazy.

The San Francisco 49ers will be facing the Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday. The 49ers are a 9.5-point underdog in this game. They have struggled in recent years against Seattle, and odds are pretty good it happens again. The 49ers will avoid becoming the first team to fail to cover in at least three games in a season, however. They beat the Los Angeles Rams down in LA last week to complete the season-sweep, and that combined with their near win in Arizona have provided three covers.

I return for one last week of my NFL Survivor pool, and I will be using the Seahawks this week. With the pool, you can only pick a team once. You get one grace loss, so if I pick a team and they lose this week, I’m still alive (I lost in Week 2 with the Oakland Raiders). If I pick a team next week after that loss, and that latter team loses, then I’m done. Last week I took the New England Patriots over the New York Jets. There are still 21 people left, and three of us still have the Seahawks.

Here are my straight up picks for the week.

Ravens @ Bengals: Bengals
Texans @ Titans: Titans
Panthers @ Buccaneers: Bucs
