The real estate adventures of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick continue! A few days after we learned that he is selling his home in San Jose, we now are learning that earlier this year he purchased a condo in the TriBeCa neighborhood of New York City. Los Angeles Times reporter Neal Leitereg, who would now seem to be on the Kaepernick real estate beat reported this based on property records.
The first tweet I got about this asked if this meant Kaepernick would go to the New York Jets this offseason. I won’t say he won’t end up there given the quarterback issues they have. However, I don’t think this purchase is related to that. His girlfriend works in New York (I’m not sure if her only job is there), so it would make sense for him to have a place nearby.
Obviously Kaepernick still lives in the Bay Area during the season, and has his family in the central valley. If he does stay with the 49ers, be it opting out and re-signing, or sticking with this deal, then either he rents during the season, or he just buys another place. There will be options.
That being said, the Jets are a team that could end up on his radar. Ryan Fitzpatrick is not the answer, and they don’t have a whole lot of much behind him. There were rumors back in February suggesting Kaepernick wanted out of San Francisco, and Manish Mehta reported the Jets were his preferred destination. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when the opt-out comes up.
Speaking of the Jets, we’ll get to see Fitzpatrick this weekend when the 49ers host New York. Given how bad the Jets have looked on Monday Night Football against the Colts, we might get to see more than one quarterback next Sunday!
