Chip Kelly: ‘We anticipate getting Aaron [Lynch] back this week.’

We break down the latest news about 49ers pass rusher Aaron Lynch.

The San Francisco 49ers will release their final injury report Friday afternoon, and more than likely, outside linebacker Aaron Lynch will be listed as questionable. He has been practicing for the past few weeks, but has been limited throughout. However, the team might have him back this weekend. In a Friday radio interview, head coach Chip Kelly said, “We anticipate getting Aaron [Lynch] back this week.”

The response came when asked about Marcus Rush and whether or not he might get a chance. Kelly said Rush had not been promoted because there had not been a need to add another OLB. He said Lynch’s injury was not season-ending, and they still had Ahmad Brooks, Eli Harold, and Tank Carradine. It was during this comment that he mentioned Lynch potentially being back.

If Lynch plays on Sunday, I would guess that he would be more of a rotational guy than a starter. He has not played since Week 7, and while he might be in good physical shape, getting into the game and getting the snaps is a whole other issue. If Lynch is active, my guess is Harold starts and Lynch is the first guy off the bench.
