49ers-Jets injury report: Todd Bowles’ team loaded with walking wounded

We break down the Jets injury report with help from a Jets blogger.

The New York Jets submitted their final injury report, and they are indeed quite the walking wounded. I spoke with Gang Green Nation writer David Wyatt to get his thoughts on the team’s injury report heading into Week 14. Here’s what David had to say, followed by the formal injury report.

The Jets have a host of walking wounded this week. We already knew that Nick Mangold was being shut down for the year, but on Friday we learned that six players had already been ruled out. This includes OT Breno Giacomini who's been injured for most of the season, when he's not injured he's been ineffective. We'll slot Brent Qvale straight in at right tackle and that likely won't hurt us all too much. In fact, Giacomini is likely to be a cap casualty at the end of the year anyway, so it'll be good to see some more of Qvale.

Unfortunately we are losing OLB Lorenzo Mauldin and NT Steve McLendon this week. We picked up McLendon to largely help fill the void by Damon Harrison leaving for the Giants. He's been pretty effective inside and helped this unit become one of the better run stuffing defenses in the league, in his place we'll see more of Deon Simon who has flashed a little potential. With Mauldin going down, we're likely to see more of Jordan Jenkins our 3rd round pick from the 2016 draft.

Todd Bowles hinted that there is a chance that we'll see Devin Smith this week, a speedster wide receiver from Ohio State who's been sidelined all year after recovering from a serious injury. DT Muhammad Wilkerson is 50/50 to play, but honestly, he's having such a horrible year, you probably wouldn't notice him on the field even if he played 100 percent of the snaps.
