49ers do not get Hall of Fame Game for Eddie DeBartolo

The NFL announced the participants in the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Game, and it will not include the San Francisco 49ers. The Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts will meet in Canton, Ohio for the annual start to the preseason schedule. The matchup makes sense considering Brett Favre, Marvin Harrison, and Tony Dungy are all headed to the Hall of Fame in August. If Terrell Owens had made the Hall of Fame, I could have seen the 49ers getting the game, but Packers-Colts makes plenty of sense this time around.

I don't think I've ever actually watched the Hall of Fame Game in its entirety from beginning to end. The last time the 49ers played in the game was 2000, when Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott were both inducted into the Hall of Fame. I'm pretty sure I did not watch the full game then.

The full preseason schedule of opponents will likely be announced in early April. The league announces the week of each game, without specifying most dates and times. They will mention the prime time games, but the specific dates and times for the bulk of the preseason schedule is usually announced sometime in May shortly before tickets go on sale. We can say with almost absolute certainty the 49ers will play the Chargers down in San Diego to close out the schedule. Other than that, who knows. The full regular season schedule will be released in mid April.
