Golden Nuggets: Offensive Players Needed

The decision of who will be the starting quarterback is the biggest decision for the 49ers this offseason. But it is not the only one on the offensive side of the ball for the team. As with most teams with a losing record, there are holes on the roster that need to be addressed. Chip Kelly's offense requires a certain type of player and with the assistance of Trent Baalke, he will need to find those type of players.

While the quarterback situation was terrible last season, the biggest area of concern for the Niners was the offensive line. The line was one of the worst in the NFL. Both Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert were in constant distress. They had little to no time to makes plays. Chip Kelly is known to like athletic, smaller linemen. His offense requires his linemen to run up to the line to start the next play quickly. The line may face a major overhaul to provide Chip with the linemen he covets.

The running back position has Carlos Hyde as the centerpiece, but in this new NFL landscape and Chip Kelly's offense, the backup is just as important. The Niners rotated a few RBs last season, but Shaun Draughn, the late season pickup, may have been the best of the bunch. The WR position has a few question marks. The uncertainty of Anquan Boldin's 49ers career leaves the receiver corp with Torrey Smith and some receivers with little playing time. Hopefully, Chip can help Trent select a WR in the draft that will make a major impact for the offense.
