Golden Nuggets: Colin-Chip Offense Done Already?

It looks like the Chip Kelly-Colin Kaepernick offense will not be debuting next season if a New York report is to be believed. According to the New York Daily News, Colin Kaepernick wants to leave San Francisco and head to the New York Jets.

As soon as news of the Chip Kelly hiring took place, the pairing of Colin and Chip seemed like a great match. Chip did not have a quarterback with the athletic ability that Colin possesses in any of his quarterbacks on the Eagles. Colin was going to be Chip's new Marcus Mariota, who was Oregon's quarterback when Chip was the HC. Colin's dual threat ability had experts speculating that Chip was going to trade for him while still the head coach of the Eagles, but that never materialized.

The issue with Colin in Chip's offense was his inability to be accurate. The reason that Mariota was so successful with Chip was his ability to be very accurate to go along with his great athletic ability. Kap's running ability is unquestioned, but his accuracy is suspect and with an offense that wants to move the ball fast downfield, that could stall drives quickly. It was never a done deal that Colin would be the starting quarterback for the 49ers next season, but Chip has been able to fix quarterbacks. He was going to be the key to Colin's resurrection as a quarterback. That may no longer be the case.
