Good morning! Now that we are in day two of free agency, we may actually see something happen now. If you weren't around yesterday, the 49ers were less active than most of us may preferred with the top-tier talent. They wound up signing Thad Lewis and Ian Williams. One of those signings makes sense, the other, well I guess we'll wait till camp.
Other hopefuls that the 49ers were connected to have wound up elsewhere. J.R. Sweezy is headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as is Doug Martin. Those names were thrown around San Francisco at some point but that's mostly it. Both have gotten some nice paydays with money Trent Baalke just doesn't want to spend, apparently.
Oliver Vernon got himself a HUGE payday after having his transition tag lifted from the Miami Dolphins. The pass rusher is now with the New York Giants. Add Janoris Jenkins, Damon Harrison and Jason Pierre-Paul to that defense as well and you have what was once a struggling group now looking a bit scary. Granted, the entire thing cost New York $205 million, but they were some big spenders.
Jed York says that they needed to knock this offseason out of the park. I wonder if the 49ers did that...
