49ers met with LB Beniquez Brown at Mississippi State Pro Day

The San Francisco 49ers are continuing their Pro Day visits. They visited with a potential day three prospect down in Mississippi.

The San Francisco 49ers are busy trying to figure out the Colin Kaepernick situation, but in the meantime, they are still active in other areas. College Pro Days are going on all this month, and the 49ers (and the rest of the NFL) are active in checking out all sorts of prospects.

The 49ers were on hand at Wednesday's Mississippi State Pro Day where they conducted a meeting with linebacker Beniquez Brown, according to DraftInsider.net's Tony Pauline. In his Pro Day rundown, it sounds like the 49ers met with Brown before his workout, but I am not entirely sure.

Brown was listed at the Combine at 6'1, 229 pounds, and is listed by NFL.com and CBSSports.com as an outside linebacker. That kind of size can fly in college, but that would be unlikely to work in the 49ers 3-4 defense. He'd need to put on a little bit of weight to play inside linebacker, but it seems like he would be better suited for that kind of role.

CBS Sports views him as a UDFA talent, while ESPN's Scouts Inc board ranks him No. 177 overall on their big board. The scouting reports I'm finding see him as a guy who lacks the kind of explosiveness to be consistently good in the NFL. However, he is viewed as a solid tackler who minimizes his mistakes, and is a tough competitor.

He appears to be a day three prospect at best. Meeting with a player doesn't mean the team is going to draft him, but it's still interesting to hear the 49ers are meeting with any prospect at a Pro Day. Maybe it's to learn more about him, maybe it's to learn more about a teammate. Make of it what you want.
