Golden Nuggets: 49ers passive in free agency, as expected

Good morning everyone. Free agency is well under way, but you wouldn't be able to tell if you were just watching the San Francisco 49ers. They have done almost nothing in free agency, and it's as clear an indicator as any that the organization has accepted that a full rebuild is in order.

General Manager Trent Baalke can talk about reloading all he wants -- that dream is dead and the 49ers would be wasting their time and the primes of the free agents they could be signing right now if they tried to make a push toward relevancy in 2016.

And really ... that's OK. I look at what the Oakland Raiders are doing and I think that franchise is on the right track. Teams should build through free agency, but the Raiders have already built through the draft. Now they're adding young talent and the balance of power in the AFC West has clearly shifted.

It's going to suck watching the rest of the NFC West win because they're all in a better position than the 49ers are right now ... but believe it or not, the 49ers are being smart about this. Whether or not there is reason for hope is an entirely different story and it wholly depends on what happens with the quarterback position going forward. Onto your links for the day!
