Browns waive Johnny Manziel

The Cleveland Browns have made a roster move many were expecting. The team announced on Friday they have waived quarterback Johnny Manziel. The Browns selected him with their first round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but numerous off-field incidents soured them, and they finally decided enough was enough.

The team likely took a few days to do this because they wanted to try and trade him for something. I imagine they might say they wish him the best and that kind of stuff, but they're likely just happy to get rid of him and move on. It is a business after all. Given that Manziel is not a vested veteran, he will run through waivers tomorrow.

The Browns have been connected to the San Francisco 49ers in the Colin Kaepernick saga, and there are some who suggested packaging Kap and a pick for Manziel and a pick. I don't think this was ever a realistic scenario, but now it is officially off the table for anybody thinking otherwise.

Manziel could still end up on an NFL roster this offseason, but I'm a little skeptical. He's certainly got talent, and that usually trumps off-field issues, but I could see teams waiting and Manziel not getting another chance until at least next year. Of course, it only takes one team being interested in him.
