The San Francisco 49ers have at least one person on hand at the Pittsburgh Pro Day, and like they've been doing the rest of this month, the team is getting some meetings in. The team is set to meet with wide receiver Tyler Boyd following his workout, according to DraftInsider.net's Tony Pauline and other reports around Twitter.
Boyd is the only player on the Pitt roster that is viewed as a likely draft candidate. They might have some UDFAs in the mix, but Boyd is viewed as a potential day two draft prospect. CBSSports.com projects him as a second round pick, and ESPN's Scouts Inc ratings have him No. 80 overall on their big board.
Boyd ran a 4.58 40 at the NFL Combine. Pauline is reporting unofficial times at his Pro Day were in the low 4.5s. Not a burner, but Pauline said he heard Boyd had a strong day in position drills, and "caught everything that touched his hands." He does not appear to be a deep threat, with CBSSports.com stating that a majority of his routes at Pitt were within seven yards of the line of scrimmage.
Boyd stands 6'1 and weighs 197 pounds. That's a little bigger than guys like DeAndrew White and Jerome Simpson, but not a huge guy. Scouts seem to like his body control and route-running. He did return work, but struggled at times and had fumble problems.
