And just like that, Connor Cook is going to be just a little more intriguing. The Michigan State quarterback told media at the school's Pro Day that he has a private workout lined up with the San Francisco 49ers, according to Charean Williams. The workout will take place in East Lansing, and he will also conduct workouts with the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins.
The 49ers visited with Cook before his Wednesday Pro Day performance. Chip Kelly was not on hand, although he told Matt Barrows he will be sticking closer to the Bay Area in terms of checking out Pro Days. He has gone far and wide in the past, but with Trent Baalke in charge of personnel, it makes sense he would cut back a little bit. However, I would have to think he will be on hand in East Lansing for Cook's workout. Kelly won't have a ton of input into the draft plan, but all indications are that he will have some sort of say in the QB position.
Whether it's Connor Cook or not remains to be seen. The prospect is projected by some in the second round, but plenty have questioned his makeup and leadership skills. It's all intangibles so it is hard for me to say what to make of it, but if the 49ers are interested, I imagine they will do their due diligence to figure out what is up with Connor Cook.
