The 2016 NFL Combine is a wrap, which means 2016 NFL mock drafts are adjusting for what we saw and heard during the Combine. It is still just media opinions, but there is updated information to give us a better idea of where things stand.
Todd McShay is back with his latest mock draft, and he has the San Francisco 49ers going quarterback. He has Carson Wentz going No. 2 to the Cleveland Browns, and the Dallas Cowboys going with defensive end Joey Bosa at No. 4. With no trades suggested, that leaves Goff at No. 7 for the 49ers.
Here is how the top six picks go in his mock:
1. Tennessee Titans - Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss
2. Cleveland Browns, Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State
3. San Diego Chargers - DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon
4. Dallas Cowboys - Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State
5. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State
6. Baltimore Ravens - Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
McShay had this to say about the 49ers potential pick of Goff:
There's a lot still to be hashed out between the 49ers and Colin Kaepernick. But if Chip Kelly is looking to draft his QB of the future and Goff falls to No. 7, the 49ers might just pull the trigger. Goff is a naturally accurate thrower who displays above-average anticipation. His smooth release would fit perfectly within Kelly's scheme, which counts on the quarterback getting the ball out on time and on target.
McShay spoke with the 49ers.com video staff during the Combine, and he specifically mentioned how a lot hinges on what the Cowboys do at No. 4. They could be in a position to find Tony Romo's long-term replacement, but they also could decide to find an immediate impact player to try and get over the top while Romo is still playing. If they go for the latter, McShay sees the 49ers going quarterback.
Of course, if the Cowboys go in the direction of an immediate impact player, I have to think that opens the door for the Jaguars or Ravens to move down potentially with the Rams if LA wants to get a quarterback. But for now, it all hinges on what the Cowboys do at No. 4.
