Tom Rathman worked with RB Daniel Lasco at Cal Pro Day

Will the 49ers draft a running back in the 2016 NFL Draft?

The San Francisco 49ers had a heavy presence at the Cal Pro Day on Friday, and it is no surprise Tom Rathman was active. Matt Barrows recapped the day, and said that Rathman put Daniel Lasco and Brendan Bigelow through a workout. Barrows reported that the Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts also worked out Lasco.

Lasco is viewed as a potential early day three prospect. The 49ers likely need some more depth at the running back position. They brought in Lance Dunbar for a visit, but he ended up re-signing with the Dallas Cowboys. Barring a late free agent addition and trade, I think we see the 49ers draft a running back next month. I would not expect it to be an early pick, but with Chip Kelly running the offense now, who knows what he will be able to sell Trent Baalke on come draft time.

Here is how ESPN ranks out the top 20 running backs in this year's draft:

1. Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State
2. Derrick Henry, Alabama
3. Kenneth Dixon, Louisiana Tech
4. Jordan Howard, Indiana
5. Alex Collins, Arkansas
6. Paul Perkins, UCLA
7. Devontae Booker, Utah
8. C.J. Prosise, Notre Dame
9. Kenyan Drake, Alabama
10. Kelvin Taylor, Florida
11. Josh Ferguson, Illinois
12. Tyler Ervin, San Jose State
13. Brandon Wilds, South Carolina
14. Daniel Lasco, California
15. Jonathan Williams, Arkansas
16. Deandre Washington, Texas Tech
17. Keith Marshall, Georgia
18. Wendell Smallwood, West Virginia
19. Devon Johnson, Marshall
20. Tra Carson, Texas A&M
