New 49ers WR Eric Rogers buys mom a car

Earlie this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers signed CFL standout wide receiver Eric Rogers to a 2-year deal worth $1.14 million. Rogers decided to use part of his guaranteed money to buy his mom a new car. Earlier this week, he posted a picture with his mom and the new car he bought her. Congrats to mom and son!

The deal included a signing bonus of $125,000, plus $100,000 of his first year salary fully guaranteed. If he does not make the roster, that $100,000 would be just a shade under a practice squad salary. Of course, coming off a season in which he lead the CFL in receiving yards and touchdowns, my guess is he will probably end up making the 49ers roster.

CFL stats certainly are not an apples-to-apples comparison with the NFL, but producing at such a high level is at least a positive sign of what he might be able to do in the NFL. He stands 6'3, and seems to have the kind of size Chip Kelly would value in his passing game. And if Anquan Boldin departs in free agency, that opens the door for all kinds of opportunities for the other receivers.
