The 2016 NFL Draft process rolls along this month with players conducting workouts at school Pro Days. That will be followed by private workouts, which just about marks the end of the pre-draft process. With that in mind, we're back for another round of Mike Mayock position rankings. We went through them in February leading up to the NFL Combine.
Mayock posted his latest rankings back on March 8. Free agency got in the way, but with that slowed down, I thought I'd go back through each of his positions over the next week and a half. I suspect Mayock will be back with more rankings sometime in early April after Pro Days wrap up.
We'll start off with the edge rushers. The big change this time around saw Leonard Floyd bumped up from No. 4 to No. 2. Kevin Dodd dropped out and Kamalei Correa and Emmanuel Ogbah moved into a tie for fifth.
The 49ers have been particularly involved with Shaq Lawson during the draft process. They met with him at the NFL Combine, and will conduct a private workout with him, and then host a separate visit in Santa Clara. It does not mean he will end up on the 49ers roster, but that kind of interest strikes me as more than just trying to throw people off. Could we actually see them make a move for Lawson? He is currently projected in mock drafts in the early to mid-teens. It is certainly possible he goes earlier than that, but we won't find out until late April.
