Golden Nuggets: Ankle Costs Ian Williams Millions

The NFL owners meetings are being held in Florida this week. The main decision makers for the 49ers: Jed York, Trent Baalke, and Chip Kelly are all in attendance and Colin Kaepernick trade rumors have been updated. The latest in the Colin Kaepernick saga is that the Cleveland Browns are backing out of trade talks and are moving to the possibility of signing Robert Griffin III. RG3 visited with Cleveland during the weekend and if the Browns are out of the Kaepernick sweepstakes, that leaves the Denver Browns and New York Jets as the remaining suitors.

A development that materialized on Monday is the failed physical of NT Ian Williams. It is reported that he had multiple surgeries on his ankle this offseason that led to his failed physical. Due to the physical, the 49ers and Ian reworked his contract. His 5 year, $27.5 million contract is now restructured to a 1 year, $6 million deal. The surgeries will reportedly have Ian out a few months.

In draft news, most mock drafts have the 49ers still selecting Cal QB Jared Goff. The possibility of the local star QB available at #7 in the upcoming draft seems too good of a scenario for the 49ers to pass up. But the 49ers are doing their due diligence. The team is going to have a private workout with Michigan State Connor Cook. He is graded as a late 1st or early 2nd round pick in the draft.
