49ers say no contact with Robert Griffin III or his agents

Trent Baalke said there has been no contact at this point. Could it change? I doubt it, but we'll probably first need to see how the Colin Kaepernick situation resolves itself.

The San Francisco 49ers have been mentioned as a possible destination for free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III, but Trent Baalke quickly shot down the rumor for the time being. He told media assembled in Boca Raton, Florida that "[w]e've had no contact with Robert (Griffin III) or his agents...right now, we're focused on and some other things. Will there be a time where we could sit down? That certainly could happen. But it hasn't happened to this point."

I suppose "could happen" might be once the 49ers resolve Colin Kaepernick's status. And even then, I don't know if I see the 49ers pursuing RG3. If the reports are true, Trent Baalke is a Blaine Gabbert fan. I could see them looking to bring in some competition, but I think instead we see them bring in a draft pick and maybe a veteran backup to compete with Thad Lewis for a No. 2 or No. 3 role.

RG3 met with the Cleveland Browns recently, and all indications are that the meeting went well. I could see Hue Jackson doing some good things with RG3, but a deal has yet to be hammered out. RG3 met with the Jets last week, but again, left without a deal getting done. Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak acknowledged Griffin was on their radar, but would not go any further than that.
