Mike Mayock quarterback rankings remain consistent with Carson Wentz, Jared Goff leading the way

The San Francisco 49ers could use a quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft. Will it come from Mike Mayock's latest rankings, or somewhere else?

The 2016 NFL Draft process rolls along this month with players conducting workouts at school Pro Days. That will be followed by private workouts, which just about marks the end of the pre-draft process. With that in mind, we're back for another round of Mike Mayock position rankings. We went through them in February leading up to the NFL Combine.

Mayock posted his latest positional rankings back on March 8. Free agency got in the way, but with that slowed down, I thought I'd go back through each of his positions over the next week and a half. I suspect Mayock will be back with more rankings sometime in early April after Pro Days wrap up. We started with edge rushers, and moved on to defensive tacklesinside linebackersinterior offensive linemenrunning backstight ends, and cornerbacks. Today, we move on to quarterbacks.

We continue to wait for some kind of resolution to the Colin Kaepernick situation. Whatever happens with that, quarterback is likely to be included on the 49ers draft board. Depending on who is available, they could go Jared Goff or Carson Wentz in the first round, Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook later in day one or early in day two, or one of numerous other quarterbacks the rest of the draft.

Mayock's latest quarterback rankings are no different than his first set of rankings. He has Wentz and Goff at the top, followed by Lynch, Cook, and then Dak Prescott. The 49ers were on hand for Wentz and Goff workouts, and are expected to hold a private workout with Cook. They've had some interest in Prescott, Vernon Adams, and others. They could select virtually any quarterback at any time, and I don't think it would be entirely stunning. The real shocker would be not drafting a quarterback at all.
