This year's free agency has been quite interesting, both for whom the 49ers have signed and whom they haven't. The most consistent player on the team the last 3 years (sans Phil Dawson) has been Anquan Boldin and yet here he is in free agency limbo, with hardly any ripples to stir the water of interest in him. Trent Baalke has openly admitted that he hasn't even had a discussion with Boldin or his representatives. I guess Anquan's status is just part of the storyline for the 49ers rebuild, staying away from older veterans or pricey ones in their prime.
The interesting flip side is the story of how a little known wide receiver from an NCAA Division III school has landed on the Niners roster and with a legitimate shot to take over Boldin's spot in the lineup. If you haven't read up on Eric Rogers story, you can catch up on the MMQB feature about him. It's a classic underdog story that will make you want to root for him to do well in the NFL.
