The 49ers have until this Thursday, March 31st to trade or cut Colin Kaepernick or his salary becomes fully guaranteed on April 1st. Trade talks, if the 49ers and other teams are still interested, may heat up with the deadline fast approaching. The Browns look to be out of talks with their signing of RG3. The Jets and Broncos may still be interested, but don't seem desperate to make a deal.
Now that it is likely that Colin will stay with the team this coming season, the #7 pick in the draft changes priority. The 49ers were picked to be Jared Goff's likely NFL destination. But Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly may have other ideas when Colin's contract becomes guaranteed. The team may decide to draft much needed help for the defensive unit, an offensive linemen or a skill player for the offense. With 12 picks in the draft, the team may wait until the later rounds to select a QB such as Michigan State's Connor Cook.
The decision about Colin Kaepernick is all up to Chip Kelly. Colin and Chip seem like a natural fit for each other and it would be intriguing to see Chip's offense with an athlete of Colin's ability. It had been rumored that Chip wanted Colin in Philly, but that never materialized. Now is the chance to see if that duo can turn each other's careers around.
