NFL mock draft 2016: Assessing the first seven picks

NFL free agency gets started next week, so let's take another look at where the top seven picks look in a mock draft database. We have two changes, and one noticeable trend.

Shortly before the start of the 2016 NFL Combine, I put together a look at what a mock draft database told us about the first seven picks. Now that the Combine is a wrap, and free agency is set to get started next week, I thought we'd take another look at the top seven picks. Thanks to Adam Stites for the hard work on this.

There is not a lot of change, with only Joey Bosa and Myles Jack switching places between the Cowboys and Jaguars. It is worth noting that Jared Goff's percentage of Browns mock drafts dropped from 65.3 percent to 46 percent. Carson Wentz has been mentioned frequently as Cleveland's target, but it is entirely possible that is a smoke screen. For now it's trending toward Wentz, but we'll see what this looks like in a week or two.

Jared Goff remains the top player mocked to the San Francisco 49ers, but due to his selection by the Browns, we had to move on. Of course, the second option was Myles Jack, but since he went to the Jaguars, we had to move down still further, again to Carson Wentz. Paxton Lynch was right behind Wentz, so mock drafts are clearly focused on the quarterback position for the 49ers.

1. Tennessee Titans - Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss - 93.7% (DE Joey Bosa - 4.8%)
2. Cleveland Browns - Jared Goff, QB, Cal - 46% (QB Carson Wentz - 42.9%)
3. San Diego Chargers - Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State - 30.2% (DE Joey Bosa - 27%)
4. Dallas Cowboys - Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State - 33.3% (DB Jalen Ramsey - 20.6%)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars - Myles Jack, ILB, UCLA - 19% (Ramsey had most at 30.2%, CB Vernon Hargreaves behind Jack at 15.9%)
6. Baltimore Ravens - Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame - 34.9% (CB Vernon Hargreaves - 12.7%)
7. San Francisco 49ers - Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State - 15.9% (Goff first at 30.2%, Jack second at 17.5%, QB Paxton Lynch behind Wentz at 11.1%)
