The free agency rumor mill is in full swing today. The biggest rumor for the 49ers is the possible interest in just released Washington QB RG3. RG3 lit the football world in his 1st season in the NFL, but has fallen from those lofty heights. Washington made the decision most people had predicted in releasing their former franchise QB in favor of Kirk Cousins. The hiring of Chip Kelly as 49ers head coach fueled the rumors of possible QBs that would excel in Kelly's offense. RG3 seems to be a natural fit for that offense. RG3 has great athletic ability and has good accuracy on his passes.

Another player that the team could be interested in is Chiefs CB Sean Smith. Smith would immediately be the biggest CB on the team and add a veteran presence. He is 6'3 with long arms, traits that Trent Baalke is known to love in his players. The 49ers will have to fight interest from their cross-bay rival, the Oakland Raiders for his services along with other teams. Also, the 49ers may be interested in trading for Chiefs RB/WR De'Anthony Thomas, a product of the Oregon Ducks and Chip Kelly.

In the trenches, the team is interested in a familiar face, J.R. Sweezy of the Seattle Seahawks. Sweezy was the player responsible for the low block that fractured Ian William's ankle a couple of years ago. He would add much needed help for an offensive line that played poorly last season.
