The University of Minnesota conducted their 2016 Pro Day on Monday, and the San Francisco 49ers had a very prominent figure present. General manager Trent Baalke took in the event, getting a chance to check out a couple cornerbacks and a wide receiver.
The top two draft prospects on the Gophers roster are cornerbacks Eric Murray and Briean Boddy-Calhoun. Neither is particularly big, with Murray measuring in at 5'11, 199 pounds, and Boddy-Calhoun measuring in at 5'9, 193 pounds, although Murray gets positive marks for his toughness. CBS Sports is projecting Murray as a potential fourth round pick, and Boddy-Calhoun as a potential fourth or fifth round pick.
Additional talent on display included outside linebacker De'Vondre Campbell (CBS Sports projects him as a 5th round pick), and defensive end Theiren Cockrain, who is projected as a seventh round pick or UDFA. Matt Barrows also tweeted about wide receiver K.J. Maye as a potential slot type of wide receiver option.
Barrows also did make a point that Baalke is from Minnesota, so why not mix in a scouting trip with a visit home?
