49ers extend Ray-Ray Armstrong, tender Michael Wilhoite, Jordan Devey

We've got some 49ers roster moves!

The San Francisco 49ers made three roster moves official on Tuesday. The team announced they have signed linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong to a one-year contract through 2016, and tendered one-year contracts to inside linebacker Michael Wilhoite and offensive guard Jordan Devey.

Armstrong and Wilhoite were restricted free agents, while Devey was an exclusive rights free agent. Armstrong likely signed a veteran minimum contract. He is 6'3, 220 pounds, and the 49ers claimed him off waivers on November 25, 2015. He appeared in five games and recorded three special teams tackles. The former 2013 UDFA appeared in 20 games over a season and half with the Rams, and 21 games over a season and a half with the Oakland Raiders. He played safety in college, and will compete this summer primarily for a special teams role.

It is no surprise the 49ers tendered Wilhoite. It has been a long uphill slog for Wilhoite. He started his career in the UFL, and worked his way onto the 49ers practice squad in 2012. He appeared in the final fives games of that season, and then all 16 games in 2013. He moved into the starting lineup in 2014 with NaVorro Bowman's knee injury, and remained a starter following Patrick Willis' retirement. A high ankle sprain resulted in his being placed on IR, with Gerald Hodges moving into the starting lineup.

The 49ers have been connected with Myles Jack in mock drafts, as the team is likely looking to upgrade the position. That being said, he is a solid veteran presence, and will compete for significant playing time later this year.

The Devey tender is surprising only in the sense that he is not a good football player. The deal itself carries very little risk. It is going to be for the league minimum and is not guaranteed. The only possible risk heading into training camp is that the 49ers miss out on a diamond in the rough. But playing the odds, that 90th guy is probably not going to be the difference-maker. My guess is Devey does not make the roster this fall, but I'm sure I'm just setting myself up for that one!
