Buccaneers nearing contract with Doug Martin, per report

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be set to bring back an important weapon to their offense. Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud is reporting the team is believed to be close to re-signing free agent running back Doug Martin to a contract that could be worth around $6.85 million per year.

If Martin gets his deal done, that would likely remove three of the top running backs from the free agent market. The Houston Texans are reportedly making a big push to get a deal done with Lamar Miller. Additionally, the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to sign former New York Jets running back Chris Ivory. That would leave the market consisting of the likes of Matt Forte, Arian Foster, LeGarrette Blount, Alfred Morris and Bilal Powell.

The 49ers running back depth chart features several options, but the team could still use some more help. After Carlos Hyde, the 49ers have Mike Davis, Shaun Draughn, DuJuan Harris, and Jarryd Hayne. I can't imagine that's the running back depth chart in its entirety when training camp starts in July.
