The first wave of free agency signings continues to roll along, and there are some intriguing deals being done. The most interesting in my mind is Coby Fleener signing with the New Orleans Saints. The five-year deal is reportedly worth $36 million. Fleener has been solid in Indianapolis, but heading to the Big Easy could be huge for his numbers. If you're a fantasy fan, I guarantee you'll hear his name all over rankings in August.
The move comes amidst word that Ladarius Green is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an intriguing tight end in San Diego, but was stuck behind Antonio Gates. I expect he breaks out with the Steelers, as he will replace Heath Miller.
The 49ers tight end position has bodies, but it remains to be seen what the 49ers can get out of them. Blake Bell is arguably the biggest upside guy for now. He will compete with Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek, Je'Ron Hamm, and Busta Anderson for opportunities. My guess is the 49ers add at least one more tight end.
Adam Jones was one of the better cornerbacks remaining on the market, and he will stay in Cincinnati. The Bengals worked out a three-year deal to retain the artist formerly known as Pacman. The 49ers are in the market for a tight end, and Sean Smith is the top option available. There are reports the 49ers and Raiders are competing for Smith's services. The 49ers have dominated the Bay Area for a long time now, but it would certainly be interesting if Smith chooses the Raiders over the 49ers.
