Patriots interested in Anquan Boldin, per report

Hopefully the receiver lands somewhere he can score another Super Bowl ring.

The free agent wide receiver market is drying up quickly, with word that Rishard Matthews has signed with the Tennessee Titans. He follows Marvin Jones, Travis Benjamin, and Mohamed Sanu all coming off the board. That leaves Anquan Boldin as one of the best wide receivers on the market, and he appears to be generating some interest.

CSN New England reporter Mike Giardi is reporting the New England Patriots have been in contact with Anquan Boldin's representatives. Giardi said the Patriots are also in contact with James Jones. Given where things stand with the Patriots, it is not surprising they would be looking for an established veteran to firm up the wide receiver corps.

Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola are the team's top two wide receivers. Adding Boldin would be a nice upgrade to the depth of the group, and give Tom Brady another sure-handed receiver. I was hoping the 49ers would trade Boldin to a contender last year when the season was falling apart, but now as a free agent, he can get to a team with a serious chance of winning big. The Patriots make a lot of sense, as do the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals. At this point, the 49ers do not. I'll be rooting for Boldin wherever he lands.
