Well, this is interesting. Matt Barrows tweeted Thursday that San Francisco 49ers offensive line coach Pat Flaherty was running o-line drills at Notre Dame's pro day. This is interesting because as Barrows points out, ND tackle Ronnie Stanley, could be the 49ers pick in the first round of the 2016 draft.
Stanley wouldn't exactly be a sexy pick like taking a quarterback, and he's definitely not mocked as much as a quarterback for the 49ers, but he's been projected to go in the top 10 in several mock drafts with the assumption he could start right away. Some mocks have him going as high as number 6.
The 49ers offensive line was a disaster last year. Partly on talent, and partly because the coaching staff didn't know when it was time to bench that talent or evaluate whoever was on the sidelines. Regardless of some of the future promise showing glimpses throughout the later half of the season, Stanley would be a huge boost. Unfortunately, there is still a problem in one Anthony Nathaniel Davis, who has sought his reinstatement to the league.
The 49ers aren't just interested in the O-line. Looks like that defense is getting a look too:
Notre Dame pro day today. I'm told LB Jaylon Smith has a private visit planned with the #49ers in Santa Clara soon.
